Women’s History Month has us thinking about the pivotal role that women have held in the history of trail and ultra running. Despite being so critical to this sport, there’s still a big imbalance at the start lines of ultra distance endurance events. We’re setting a goal to change this at Fire Tower this year!
In 2022 we had 25 women toe the line to start the Fire Tower 50K, and for 2023 we’re aiming to double this! We want to make 2023 the year of #50WomenRun50K. We want to see more women out on course, achieving something incredible. We want lots more women. We want so many women out there that we almost can’t believe it actually happened.
For this year’s event, every woman who signs up for the Fire Tower 50K will be given an additional #50WomenRun50K patch to go along with your Fire Tower one! We’re also hoping to highlight some of our amazing athletes throughout the year and celebrate women doing awesome things.
Fire Tower is one of the most accessible 50Ks around, and for anyone who is ultra-curious, we want to be the place where you can succeed. With generous cutoffs (17 hours for 50K), fun aid stations, food and camping at the finish, plus a beautiful mixed-terrain course, this is the place for you to shine!
So come join us October 7th! And as you’re training this summer, tag Fire Tower on social media, and use the hashtag #50WomenRun50K to show your support for boosting women’s participation in ultra running.
